If Jamaica is the home of the best talents in reggae music, then Sherieta is by far, one of the most talented female vocalists to hit the scene in the last decade.
Born in Kingston, she was raised in a Christian home, and her parents (father becoming a minister when she was age 14) made sure to instill in her the knowledge that her talent was a gift from the Almighty. Growing up as a church girl gave Sherieta boundless exposure to music, as she sang in several choirs and groups and duets with her older sister Kerri-Ann, while also playing a number of instruments, developing in her a passion for music that she believes will never die. Sherieta's love for music however, never interfered with her school work and she gained tremendous achievements academically in both primary and high school along with the respect of her peers and teachers. After completing studies at the Immaculate Conception High in 2005, she then moved on the University of Technology, but it was here that shortly after, something changed.
Sherieta's desire to be true to her soul became dominant, and it was now music or nothing at all. With confidence she enrolled at the Edna Manley College Music School. Throughout her college life she was the top student in both theory and practical subjects, and this definitely paved the way for her professional career which started in 2007. Since then she managed to establish successful relationships with top class producers such as Dean Fraser, Mikey Bennett and Christopher Birch. These great musicians have helped to nurtured her unique style, which is a blend of reggae, dancehall and R&B, a combination rarely mastered by other vocalists. She is also an gifted writer, who, other than penning most of her own songs, has written for several well know acts such as Etana (Warrior Love), Luciano (No Evil) and a few songs for Jah Cure including 'Freedom' and hit song 'You'll never find'. Also in 2007, Sherieta made the top 20 list with her original song 'I Wish For You' on the BBC's international talent competition, 'The Next Best Thing'.
Indeed Sherieta is no stranger to the professional stage and as a background vocalist she has toured in England and Europe, USA, China and Japan as well as several Caribbean territories with entertainers such as Tarrus Riley, Diana King, Duane Stephenson and Nasio Fontaine. In August 2009, she was the opening act for Tarrus Riley and Duane Stephenson on the 'Contagious' album tour in the United States.
When not on the road, Sherieta is usually in studio arranging and singing background vocals on songs for other artists, however, her talent is not limited to singing; she plays percussions and keyboards recreationally.
Sherieta is under the management of Island Star Records and is currently in the studio working on her debut album. Affectionately known as I.V, we say "here to Jamaica and the world at large Sherieta!" |
